The memorial house of the famous painter Sava Šumanović is located in Šid. In this house, the artist spent his early youth and the last year of his life. From this house, on August 28, 1942, he was taken to the scaffold. The house was built in 1867. by Paja Nikolić for the needs of the brewery. At the end of the 19th century, the uncle of Sava Šumanovic, Dr Dragutin Grčić, had bought a house from P. Nikolic. The young family Šumanović has moved to this house from Vinkovci, when Milutin Šumanović retired. Sava was four years old then. The family house of Šumanović, in which the gallery was located, was issued for the needs of the court. Originally, the house belonged to two adjacent plots where the economic part of the household and the facilities for the service were located. After Šumanović's return from Paris in 1930, the house was adapted to the needs of the artist. All furniture and items exposed in the house belonged to the family. In the time of nationalization after the Second World War, Persida Šumanović managed to keep the house and completely preserve her son's studio where over 600 paintings were created. Ms. Persida received president Tito here in 1965, and she died in this house in 1968.
