The high-level running culture in Subotica has a history spanning several decades. The idea of the Subotica Half Marathon was born from the rich international experience of our runners. This year marks the seventh edition of the race, organized by the Horizont Sports Association. It is one of the most well-attended races in the country and undeniably follows one of the most beautiful routes. The half-marathon course consists of two 10.5 km laps, while the 5 km and 10 km races are one-lap courses, all marked on flat terrain and asphalt surfaces, through the shaded, closed streets of the strict and broader city center. The course holds an IAAF-AIMS “A” certification and is listed on the race calendars of the Serbian Athletics Federation and the European Road Races Federation. The event also caters to the youngest participants – the children’s races allow the youngest age group to compete individually, with parental accompaniment, or even in strollers. The main races start at 8:00 AM, with the start and finish zones located in the main square, under the imposing City Hall. The finisher medals for the Subotica Half Marathon have been designed by the organizers to be imprints of this unique experience. This year, the Subotica Gymnasium building is featured on the medals – a building once graced by Subotica-born literary figures Kosztolányi and Csáth during their school days.

SUBOTICA

The former gem of Bács-Bodrog County is now known as the City of Art Nouveau. The town, with its diverse ethnic composition, exudes a blend of sun-soaked southern tranquility and Balkan temperament, with architecture characterized by the innovative spirit of Hungarian Art Nouveau from the turn of the century. Among its buildings, the Town Hall and Europe’s second-largest and only remaining synagogue built in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style stand out prominently. The spirit of the past lingers in the air, with the imagery from Kosztolányi’s writings coming to life, blending subtly with the 21st-century hustle and bustle, evoking a smile and an inexplicably calming feeling for visitors.

INTERETNO Festival

This year’s Subotica Half Marathon coincides with the dates of the Interetno Festival, a long-standing tradition in the city. Etnopolis – the realm of cultural enchantment – will bring the colors of international music and culture to the heart of Subotica for the 23rd time. The festival’s main message is the coming together of different cultures, showcasing folk music, dance, and craft traditions. Visitors can enjoy concerts, folk and world music performances, multidisciplinary programs, and culinary events. A late-summer challenge and rejuvenation await both body and mind for all ages, athletes, and sport enthusiasts in Subotica. Don’t miss out!
