Sarma Festival in Bačka Topola

The Sarma Festival in Bačka Topola is organized in November. Visitors can enjoy many other programs besides the sarma cooking contest.

Sarma is not a traditional Hungarian meal. It is of Greek origin, but the Turks made it popular on the Balkans. The Sarma Festival is held on the Fair-ground in Topola. Contestants arrive from Serbian towns, but there are people from foreign countries as well. The Festival offers a wide range of programs besides the sarma cooking contest, like the competition in cabbage holding and grinding. The cooking contest is held in three categories: classic sarma (stuffed cabbage), special sarma (ground beef in vine or spinach) and vegetarian sarma. Folk musicians and other bands play music at the event, so the good atmosphere is guaranteed.
