City Library of Subotica

A beautiful Art Nouveau building in downtown Subotica.

Many different nation’s literature can be found in this culturally diverse city’s library. The library’s collection consists of authors from Vojvodina and foreign authors’ works. What makes the City Library of Subotica special is its location as well. It is placed in the heart of the city, surrounded by Art Nouveau constructions. The most spectacular parts of it are the two atlases on the facade - inspired by many writers and poets - and the Turul bird, both which are still loyal symbols of the city to this day. A literary fun fact is that some of the scenes from the novel Skylark by Dezső Kosztolányi take place in this building. The library organizes a number of events for literature fans.
