Štrand is one of the most popular and best-kept beaches not only in Serbia, but also along the entire Danube. The beach started its operation in 1911, although locals had used it even years before. The first cabins were built in 1913 (three rows), followed by the construction of a ticket office at the main entrance, which is recognisable of its two towers and wooden turnstiles for the individual entrance of visitors. Soon there have been placed barracks for bicycles, showers, trampolines, bouncy castles and restaurants. Since its establishment, Štrand has been known for various sports events such as picigen, tennis with hands, kurendol (foot-tennis) and, of course, tennis that is played with heads, which was invented on this beach. Today, Štrand covers seven hectares of green areas and almost the same amount of sandy ones. Along the 700 meters long beach visitors can enjoy the shade of 400 trees and shrubs. The safety and security of the bathers and visitors are taken care of by the rescue and medical service, while the doctor on duty is in charge for health care. During hot summer days, approximately 20,000 visitors come to Štrand daily, and from 1 May to 30 September, that is, in the summer season, up to a million people pass through the gates of the beach. There are 830 cabins, numerous catering and entertainment facilities for all age groups. The offer is also complemented by numerous cultural and sports events, such as the Challenger Tournament in beach volleyball the Vojvodina Fest, daily parties during the Exit Festival, competitions in basketball, football, handball on sand and tennis with head. Special attention is paid to the youngest visitors. Every year there are theatre performances, workshops, competitions in building sand castles, and so on.
