Jazak Monastery

Baroque and mild influences of Islamic architecture on the facade made this monastery authentic on Fruška gora.

The Jazak monastery is located on the slopes of Fruška gora not far from the town of the same name. Some say that the name was obtained because it is between the two hills (jaz, n – abyss), while others say that the word has Arabic origin. According to tradition, the Old Jazak was built by the despot Jovan Branković in the end of the 15th century. During the Great Emigration of Serbs, the relics of Uroš Nejaki were transferred from Nerodimia to the Old Jazak, which contributed to the construction of a new and larger monastery in the 18th century, making it the "youngest" on Fruška gora. It is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Baroque and mild influences of Islamic architecture on the facade made this monastery unique on Fruška gora. In addition to architecture, the monastery is adorned by a rich iconostasis. Several times, the relics of emperor Uroš were transferred from the monastery to finally be returned in 2001. There is also a part of relics of Martyr Anastasia the Roman. In the courtyard of the monastery there is a source stream dedicated to the same holy saint.
