This special nature reserve offers every visitor a wonderful adventure. There are 58,000 pairs of birds living on Obedska bara, so many call it – a paradise for birds.
Obedska Bara is located in the south-eastern part of Srem between the villages Kupinovo, Obrež, Grabovci and the Sava River, only 40km west of Belgrade. The abandoned Sava meander, formed two millennia ago independently defies the river and exasperates its beauty as it flows through south-eastern Srem. Today, it is a widely known special nature reserve that attracts tourists, primarily flora and fauna lovers, from all over the world. It allures with its beauty, mystery and heavenly nature, and fascinates with its greatness and richness. Once it was part of the river, then oxbow lake, while today Obedska Bara is a wetland about 13 kilometres long. The first thing that impresses you when you visit this paradise for birds is the fact that it extends up to the horizon - in some places it is wide up to 750 meters. There are about 58,000 bird pairs recorded, from which 91 species are nesting here and 128 species are passers-by, wintering and migrating birds. Among the interesting species one can find weather loaches (an autochthonous species), vipers, wild cats, pine martens, otters etc. In the area of Obedska Bara, rare plant species can also be seen: white water-lilies, yellow water-lilies, waterwheel plants, marsh ferns, marsh cinquefoils and wetland orchids.
