Villa Stanković

The villa is built in a place with a magnificent view of the Danube. The villa was built by a famous Serbian author, mason and cardiologist – Dr. Radenko Stankovic.

Villa Stanković is located on Fruška gora near the settlement Čortanovci. It is built on a beautiful place with a magnificent view of the Danube and Bačka. The residence of the royal lieutenant Dr. Radenko Stanković is one of the most beautiful summer residences in our country. Dr. Stanković was the famous Serbian importer of King Peter II, mason, minister of education during the reign of King Alexander I and founder and professor at the medical faculty in Belgrade. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the project of the famous Serbian architect Dragiša Brašovan, and, according to the wishes of the owner, Dr. Radenko Stanković, in the style of Serbian medieval castles, in the repute of the castles in Lombardy. On the outer part of the western wall of the villa, a relief fragment is embedded, showing a woman with a child holding a stick with a vine and a cluster in her right hand. This fragment found during the excavation of the foundation tells us that these are reamins of the Roman villa and testifies that this space was used by the memebers of the high class during the Roman period. The villa was surrounded by a beautiful garden and a spacious estate, where Dr. Stankovic wishing to restore the lost types of wine and schnaaps, grew vines and various kinds of fruits. From a carefully cultivated grape, he made a white wine that was served at Beli dvor, The White palace of Karađorđević the dynasty.
