Lake Ledinci

The lake was created in 1999 when quarry pumps stopped working when they were hit by the NATO bombing. The lake is currently empty.

Ledinačko lake is located on Fruška gora near the village of Stari Ledinci, near Novi Sad. The Lake was created in 1999 during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia when the abandoned quarry pumps that were exploiting the rare volcanic ore-trachyte were damaged. The pumps stopped working, and groundwater and two streams began to fill the quarry with water. The lake was discharged during the summer of 2009 for the needs of the company "Alas", which in the next 8 to 10 years will exploit the stone from the quarry in which the lake was formed. After that, the water should be re-pumped and the lake re-formed. It was imagined that he future lake is to be the center of a new nature park, in which there will be a picnic area, a beach, sports fields for basketball and football, bicycle paths and the possibility of sports climbing. The lake occupied an area of 4 hectares and almost all sides were surrounded by steep cliffs. The lake was bean shaped, about 400 meters long, and at its widest part it was about 100 meters. The average depth was 15 meters and at its deepest it was 50 meters. It was located at an altitude of 300 meters. The water on the surface was green and clean, due to constant inflow from the tributary, and it was cold during the summer months.
