The rustic location of the festival is the immediate surroundings of Vojvodina’s only fully preserved and revitalized “Bajúsz” windmill. At the beginning of August, the rich program offerings, cultural events, and pool party atmosphere will draw everyone out to the plain. As a multidisciplinary festival, more than 60 performers on 5 stages will excite the young audience again this year, including domestic and Hungarian performers as well as Austrian, Lithuanian, Czech, and other foreign artists. (Full program here: https://malomfesztival.com/) The key to its community-building nature is the sincere hospitality of the locals. Its target audience is boundless – with daytime programs and activities for the little ones and families, poolside coolness attracting the youth, and traditional flavors and homemade drink specialties delighting all age groups. Camping is free for festival-goers, but the developed rural tourism of the area also offers numerous accommodations. You can get to know the almost forgotten world of villages and regional museums in the immediate vicinity, where looking back to our roots, the soul inevitably finds rest.

Orom

The North Banat village of Orom in Vojvodina, with only 1,560 residents, belongs to the municipality of Kanjiža. Its name was given by the locals, who viewed the area on top of the loess plateau rising from the Tisza valley plain as a promontory. Its inhabitants are predominantly Hungarian. Thanks to its tradition-preserving population, it is a valuable spot in the plain. In the building of the former railway station, the locals have created a Railway Museum, which houses local history memorabilia, tools used in the past, documents, objects, and pictures related to railway traffic. Another result of local cooperation is the Zengő Regional Museum, which is an authentic imprint of the local past and the lives of our ancestors. In the regional museum, you can see a clean room and a rich collection of traditional tools, as well as participate in traditional preservation activities. A surprising element of the plain is the nearby watchtower – the 39-meter-high brick tower in the Oromi border, also called the Oromi pyramid. It can actually be a map mark, a reference point indicating the highest point in the area, but the locals regard it as a cult place, where it’s easy to walk or bike to and where it’s good to rest.

Tóthfalu

The nearby village of Tóthfalu, just 7.5 km away, is the “stronghold” of rural tourism in the area, where a guide assists in visiting local sights and participating in cultural programs. When visiting here, be sure to see the largest Turul statue in Vojvodina, but what really necessitates a visit is the Mini Southern Region miniature park, where significant monuments, buildings, and sights of our region can be seen in one place, from the fortress of Bač, through the Aracsi deserted church, to the inverted clock of Petrovaradin – as a teaser for a future adventure exploring all of Vojvodina. The hospitality of the people of Tóthfalu and the quality of their services guarantee an enjoyable trip in the village. Getting to know the tranquility of this welcoming environment allows you to truly appreciate the uniqueness of the Malom Festival. The goal of the Malom Festival is to erase borders between countries and people, both external and internal, all of them. It showcases the untouched beauty of Vojvodina, the plain where time still stands, and where the sky and the earth meet on the endless horizon.
