SRP Slano kopovo in Novi Bečej attracts tourists, primarily those interested in “photo safari” because it represents the habitat of bird species atypical for these areas.
Special nature reserv Slano Kopovo is in the municipality of Novi Bečej in Banat. In the ancient past, the restless Tisa and once lush streams that ran from the Carpathians constantly changed their course, spilled and flooded lowlands. Because of this, ponds were formed in the numerous relief depressions, making wetlands and meadows dominate the landscapes of the plains in Banat. By drying the marshes during the 17th and 18th centuries, raising embankments and digging canals, people had dried many of the ponds forever. One of the ponds that escaped this fate is Slano Kopovo. Slano Kopovo, as a very specific area is known for its very typical and valuable plant cover. The coastal belt of Slano Kopovo is characterised by wetland vegetation. Reeds are most typical here, while a subassociation of bolboschoenetosum is developed on scattered salty grounds, causing poorly saline water-soaked substrate. Slano Kopovo is one of the most important bird habitats in Serbia. Its value is particularly reflected through the nesting of species that are atypical for the Pannonian Plain, and characteristic of the Pontic - Caspian salt sources and sea shores. Most mammal species registered in SNR Slano Kopovo area belong to the group of protected and strictly protected species. Photo safaris are organised in the reserve.
