Bishop’s palace in Vršac

"Vladičanski Dvor"-The Bishop's palace is located in Vršac. It is the oldest Bishop's palace of the Serbian Orthodox Church and is the only one from the baroque period. The Bishop's place in Vršac is a monument of culture of great importance. The bishop's residence of Banatian bishops was built by the bishop Jovan Georgijević, who has in 1750 returned the bishop's chair from Karansebeš in Vršac. An adjoining temple was built within the courtyard, where there is the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. The palace gallery is rich in portraits of bishops and other ecclesiastical priests, has a large collection of old manuscripts, icons and books, the oldest of them being the "Vatican Gospel" dating back to the second half of the 16th century.
