Staro Hopovo Monastery

Isolated and surrounded by a pine forest, the male monastery of Staro Hopovo is one of the smallest on Fruska Gora.

About two kilometers from the Novo Hopovo monastery, there is a male monastery called Staro Hopovo, one of the smallest on Fruškagora. It is often called the Old Monastery. At the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16thcentury despot Djordje Branković built the monastery and a church dedicated to St. Nicholas. Of this old church, which was made out of wood and covered with tiles, there is almost nothing left. Having suffered under the impact of an earthquake in the mid-eighteenth century, today's church is dedicated to Saint Panteleimon. If you continue along the path next to the monastery, you will reach the Jelenac stream, the source of Staro Hopovo, above which a small chapel and sulfursource are raised.
